I want to take a moment of your time and introduce myself. My name is Amber Snell and I am a Middle Grades Math and Social Studies teacher. I have taken a non-traditional path to teaching but one I think that is rich with experiences to help my students succeed. I was born and raised here in Central Kentucky and while I have traveled around the country and the world, Central Kentucky will always be home.
I am a proud graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and exemplify an eternal colonel with degrees in Marketing and Psychology and Masters of Business Administration and currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching. I have managed a small business as well as worked for “corporate America” and have a firsthand understanding of why it is critical for our children to make connections of content to the world around them.
I know that education and learning does not “come easy” for everyone and I want to take a moment to tell you about what I believe.
I believe….
We are raising adults not children. When you think about raising children to be responsible adults instead of children it changes the way you interact with them. I value students learning responsibility, to care for others and the world around them, and having fun while we do it!
It takes a village to raise a child. Parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, neighbors, religious and political leaders – anyone and everyone who cares for your child; It takes everyone coming together and supporting each other to raise a child.
Real world connections help you succeed. Simply teaching content to pass a test or “because you are told to” is not enough – for students or what our expectations should be for them. It is important to help students connect content to real world applications in order for truly engaged learning to occur.
Everybody is somebody. Whether you come from the poorest of neighborhoods or drive the nicest cars, it does not matter to me. When students step into my classroom they all have the ability to determine their own destiny and be somebody.
In doing and giving your best. “Good, better, best – never let it rest until good becomes better and better becomes best!” - Dr. Janna Vice
You never stop learning… Even when school is over we always have the opportunity to keep learning – from those cultures around us, from the environment, from each other.
Why I believe?
As a parent it is important to me to know that the person who is teaching and caring for my children on a day-to-day basis wants as many great things for them as I do. It is also important to me to know that person will challenge their minds, encourage their spirits, and expect the best out of them and that is what I hope to do for your child.
Whether you are a student, parent, fellow educator, or administrator you want to know what the person who is working with your child cares and what they believe in.
